Suspension

- Tokiko Alumina adjustable strut inserts (set to number 2) with Suspension Spring Specialists coilover kits using 8” 375 lb. springs 

 

- Front suspension is lowered 2.5” with no loss of travel and corrected lower control arm and tie rod geometry with the following changes:

 

    - Strut housings have been modified to bolt to the steering knuckle Ύ” higher.  Struts pass through                    strut towers to strut bearings on 1-1/2” spacers on top of strut towers and use newer, progressive bump stops.

 

    - Front hubs mount on fabricated 1.5”? balljoint extenders. 

 

    - Tie rod ends bolt to machined steering knuckles from the bottom up, through fabricated tapered sleeves.

 

- Autotech 23mm hollow sway bar with u-bolts over end clamps  (distance from center of wheel to bottom edge of wheel arch is 12 Ύ”)

 

- A1 Scirocco K bar lower front stress bar, Autotech aluminum upper front stress bar

 

- ’84 GTI steering rack

 

- 15 gallon Summit Racing polyethylene fuel cell with foam, VDO sender, and fabricated fill plate and mounting frame.  Sideways mounted fuel cell replaces longitudinal stock tank and mounts 2” in front of rear axle for better weight distribution.

Drivetrain

- Flywheel lightened from 12 lb. to 7.5 lb. with stock disk & 16v pressure plate

 

- All fuel injection equipment moved over to passenger side with complete ’87 Jetta GLI 16v injection & knock sensor ignition systems, bottom cut out of airbox with fabricated cold air intake & K&N panel filter

 

- Rapid Parts Blue Igniter ignition wires with stock ignition system (set to 12 degrees advance)

 

- Brospeed (Bosal) 4-2-1 ceramic coated headers, Autotech high flow cat, custom 2 Ό” mandrel bent exhaust & 2 1/2” single chamber Flowmaster muffler exits at 45 degree angle, just in front of drivers side rear wheel

 

- Heated OX sensor (Bosch part #13913, actually a Ford Taurus application) with an AutoMeter air/fuel ratio gauge.  Idle mixture set with computer disconnected and light bouncing between last yellow and first green lights.

 

- A2 (AC) radiator & 2 speed fan mounted all the way to driver’s side, 176 degree low temp thermostat and 185/199 degree low temp fan switch, Prestone Lowtox propylene glycol coolant

 

- Fabricated full throttle a/c lockout switch

 

- A1 diesel noise insulator pad mounted on the underside of the hood
